Alzheimer’s disease and all types of dementia can really take a toll on a family. Being a caregiver can be tough, especially when you need to support your loved one in addition to being the breadwinner of the family.

Ontario Police officers were called to a home for what they thought was a domestic dispute between an elderly married couple. When they arrived they realized that the older woman was suffering from dementia and that her husband had recently pawned his wedding ring to obtain grocery money for the two of them. The couple had been married for over 54 years. The husband admitted that he was stretched to the limit in caring for his wife and putting food on the table.

The police began a collection among their staff and raised $150 in grocery money and $130 more to buy the gentleman’s wedding ring back.

What an incredible act of kindness and going above and beyond the call of duty for the sake of their community.
